If time has taken a toll on your outdoor deck or if you have just invested in a new one, now is the time to protect your deck from the harsh effects of sunlight and moisture.Each year many people spend extensive time and money building beautiful wooden decks, and fences, and, sadly, watch them deteriorate due to the fact that their wood is unprotected from the devastating forces of weather. The damaging effects of weather to unprotected wood begin immediately.
Rain, melting snow and morning dew are quickly absorbed by unprotected wood, causing it to soften and swell. The sun’s heat causes drying, which makes the wood shrink and lose its natural oils. These cycles of wet and dry (swelling and shrinking) cause wood to warp, split and crack, all of which lead to premature wood life and expensive repairs.
Unprotected wood is also subject to algae and mildew growth, rot and decay, surface graying and degradation from ultraviolet (UV) rays and attack from a variety of insects. You can depend on Deck Solutions to restore your valuable wood to its original bright, clean and natural look and protect it from future damaging exposure from the elements.
In order to adequately protect exposed wood, a sealer must offer resins and oils to reduce the warping, shrinking, cupping and curling. Other essential protection includes a fungicide, mildewcide combination, water repellency, UV protection, complete penetration and transparent pigmentation in order to enhance and preserve the natural color of new wood. In addition, a high-tech sealer/stain should be non-toxic to humans, animals and plants and environmentally responsible.

Deck Solutions incorporates a unique three step LOW PRESSURE cleaning system into every job to meet its cleaning needs using our commercial strength and 100% biodegradable cleaners that won’t harm grass or plants.
A pre cleaner is sprayed on the surface first which loosens up and removes any dead gray wood fibers, prior finishes and algae mold and mildew growth. This allows a Deck Solutions technician to carefully clean your outdoor wood using LOW PRESSURE. High pressure cleaning systems can cause extreme damage to wood splintering and raising the grain.
Most outdoor wood has mold growth of some sort on it. After the job has been thoroughly cleaned a cleaner used to remove mold is sprayed on the entire surface to ensure that the wood is entirely clean and that we will not later seal in any mold. Cleaning with water alone will not remove mold.
The final step in the cleaning process is to brighten the outdoor wood. Brightener is applied to the surface to lighten up the wood to its most original color while at the same time opening the pores in wood to except sealer properly. The brightening process also removes nail bleeding and tannin bleed.
After allowing the project to dry out for at least a 24 hour period a deck solutions technician will test your wood to make sure it has a moisture content of less than 12% before applying any sealer to the wood. Prior to sealing a deck solutions technician will also reset any nail pops and sand all hand railings. After careful preparation of the work area covering all plants and shrubs and masking off the appropriate areas we will begin sealing.
Two coats of Timber Sealer penetrating oil stain will be applied to all the exposed wood; this includes all spindles, stairs, railings, lattice and vertical supports. Undersides of decks are not included because they are affected very little by the elements.
Upon completion of the job a deck solutions technician will do a final walkthrough with the homeowner if they are home to make sure there are no touch ups and the job area is clean.

Although Deck Solutions specializes in stripping of difficult finishes when a deck has been previously painted or stained it may or may not be able to be stripped completely. If this is the case we will recommend a solid deck stain or the combination of a solid deck stain and natural finish often using a solid on vertical surfaces and a natural wood finish on floors, this can add to the beauty of your home by matching the house trim and creating an extension of your home’s style.
